Vikings - were norse warriors, merchants, explores and sometimes even pirates. Whose main goal was to please there superior gods and to expand in the Northren Europe areas.

Ginnungagap - Ginnungagap was in the beginning the dark void on which everyone and everything was created even the Norse gods.

Nifleheim - Nifleheim is the place of clouds. Its a completley clouded area and full of berrain ice land. Very hard to live on just like the Northern Europe areas.

Muspellheim - Is the complete opposite of Nifleheim. It is a place consumed by fire and guarded by Sert. Muspellheim melts the ice of Nifleheim and makes the world. Duality.

Yggdrasil - Yggdrasil is the tree on which everything is connected. All of its branches connect to the nine worlds, including Asgard and Midgard.

Asgard - Asgard is the place where the gods are. they watch over the humans in Midgard and sit on there throne having fun and doing the work of the gods. Asgard could be dipicted as Mount Olympus to the Greeks.

Midgard - Midgard is the place where humans are and all other beings. It is our duty as humans to worship the Norse gods so we can go to Valhalla and fight and eat tell Ragnarok.

Hel - Hel as a person is the one who rules the Underworld, whcih is also named Hel. It is easy to rember these because Hel rules Hel in Hel :).

Bifrost Bridge - The Bifrost Bridge is the thing connecting Asgard the place of the gods and Midgard the place of humans and other mortal things.

Ymir - The first and evil frost giant Ymir, gave birth to Loki. Was killed by Odin, Ve and Villi because of his evil and treachery.

Odin - Odin was the cheif of all gods. He was the all seeing god and with his two ravens he could see everything that was going on in the world.

Frigg - The wife of Odin who gives birth to Thor the thunder god. She has the gift of prophecy, but doesn't always know when this or that will happen

Valkyries - Valkyries are the children of Odin, choosen to lead those specific warriors who died in battle. Back to Valhalla to be worshipped forever.

Norns - They are the fates of Norse Mythology. The Norns can see the past, present, and future of everything. They saw when Ragnarok was going to happen and know it is inevidetable.

Thor - Most known Norse god. God of Thunder, extrmeley strong. He is one of the most important gods in Norse Mythology right next to Odin.

Balder - The most beloved god of all is Balder. He is the god of light and beauty, which I thought was vey wierd because that trait usally goes to a female not a male god.

Njord - Njord is the father of Frey and Freya. He is also related to Sea, Fertility and wealth.

Frey - He is a very important Norse god to the humans. He controlled the agriculture and without that most of the Norse people would starve. He also controlls the weather.

Freya - Goddess of Love and Fertility. Very important god in Norse mythology. Gives us Friday, and everybody loves Fridays.

Idunn - Idunn had to give each of the gods a golden apple, to give them eternal youth. Probaly important only because she is allowed to keep the Norse gods young.
Loki - Loki is a trickster figure. Very cunning and mystreious, and some how always getting himself into trouble or others. Because of being born from Ymir, Loki has evil blood and might commit said evil crimes such as the killing of Balder leading to Ragnarok.

Fenrir - Fenrir is a gigantic wolf who is very violent and many ways. He is Loki's faithful son and in that perpective he is evil because Loki was evil, but in turn he is far more evil than Loki
Jormungandr - Jormungandr is the son of Loki. Loki tossed him into the sea and then became so big he know encircles the earth. Known as the world serpant for obvious reasons.

Ragnarok - Ragnarok is the day when everything will die. (except two people and two giants that will start a new race of people.) It will start by the death of the beloved Balder and end with everyone dying god and human alike.

Runes - Runes are used in the Norse, to tell of certain events such as if a man should be wealthy or poor in his future. If the rune would land backward it would be the opposite of what that rune was. It lands backwards on courage said man would be a coward.

Bear Legend

Cherokee: Bear Legend

I did my research on the “Bear Legend” myth. It comes from the Cherokee Indian tribe and describes how bears came into being. Up ahead is the story, however it is summarized and in my own words. So it started out as just a regular Indian tribe living by the mountains, going through life, trying to survive, just the regular stuff. This one boy though couldn’t stand it so everyday he would travel into the woods and wouldn’t come back until it was almost dark.

In the same way that a mother makes sure nothing bad is going to happen to her boy. The tribe confronts this boy to ask him why he goes into the woods. He says he likes the woods better, in other words, this place isn’t good enough for me its better up there I am going to stay up there. As a result of this conflict, his tribe follows him up to the woods and some agree that it is better and they stay along with the boy.

Then the people who stayed started growing hair all over there body, so they were known as bears. All in all, everything turned out right.

Alcyone and Ceyx

Ceyx and Alcyone

People are always saying if you are faithful to the one you love and if you are not bad you will always end up doing good or moving on too good places. The reason my myth is important because it contains the emotion of true love. Even though Ceyx was at sea and Alcyone could of easily gotten away with having an affair with another guy she choose to wait for him, until the day he came back. So in this story Ceyx is going to go out to sea and a great storm comes up and the boat gets sunk and the crew and Ceyx drowned.

That day Hera sent Morpheous who was the old god of sleep to visit Alcyone in her sleep. In this dream Alcyone saw Ceyx die drowning and all Ceyx asked for is for her to cry for him. After she cried for him in her sleep she than woke and went out to the sea only to find that it was not a dream at all.

So on the physical and natural you have death both physical and natural way how a person passes on tho the different world. The social level of this is that it not only effects him, but as a wife, Ceyx is extremely hurt also and is left vulnerable. The psychological level of this is that it Ceyx no longer has someone to rebound on once she is knocked down there won't be that other person in her life to pick her back up so sadness is psychological.

Lucky in this love story, Ceyx lived because Alcyone was good and honest. Hera choose to keep Ceyx alive because she knew that Alcyone could not handle the disappointment of her losing her true love. She was good and so good things happened she did not have to handle the pain of death, instead they live above us in the air.
